"Lampier jew Muzbieh" Oil Lamp

from €195.00

The oil lamp was the source of light most commonly used by the Maltese in the 18th Century, even more so than candles. It consists of a long central silver rod soldered to a shaped flat base at one end. Threaded in this rod is a sliding oil-well having three or four spouts and a cover. The oil-well can be adjusted to the desired height by an underlying screw. A bracket to which the reflector is attached is fitted over the oil-well. The bracket enables the reflector to be moved around as desired.

Screwed to the top of the central rod is an elaborately cast handle by which the lamp can be carried around.

The lamp is also equipped with a snuffer, an extinguisher, a prickle and tweezers. These hang from a central ring by lengths of chain .

Solid sterling silver 925. This item is fully functional from size No. 3.
